Permanence
Standing on the pavement
I gawked at the ranks of dolls
Wondering, “are they permanent?”
those painted smiles droll

like your pic.. All those mass produced dolls, like orphans, waiting in eager anticipation for someone to adopt them. :-)

You never find pure happiness
'Tis ever with sorrow tainted
Thank God for smiles that last
So what if they be painted?

Hi Kozz, I just see a row of beautiful princesses waiting for suitable suitors, but then I am often accused of having too romantic an outlook ;-)

Hi Ink Spill, here is my take:

That sorrow tainted moment
of purely genuine happiness
is longer than what you invent -
a painted smile - is no prowess

These kind of dolls really came into the mainstream after the movie Bhoot featured one such doll.

Hi Ash, Haven't seen Bhoot to comment intelligently, but I do remember a Hollywood flick I had seen as a child - Child Play, that featured a fiend of doll called Chucky!!
